Porcellio laevis “Panda”
The Panda morph of Porcellio laevis is known for its striking black and white pattern and is particularly long-lasting and robust. Originally native to Mediterranean greenhouses, it thrives in warm temperatures and good air circulation.
Climate & Facilities:
Set up your container with 5 cm of loose forest soil, some white-rotting hardwood, and plenty of fallen leaves. Ideally, keep the temperature between 22°C and 27°C and provide a gentle breeze. One corner should remain permanently moist (60–75% RH), while the rest of the soil remains nearly dry.
Feeding & Care:
As herbivores, the woodlice nibble on leaves, rotten wood, and occasionally fresh vegetables. Supplement with animal protein (e.g., Gammarus) twice a week to ensure even reproduction. Cuttlefish bones in the substrate provide important calcium; please replenish regularly.
Reproduction & Growth:
Females carry their young for 28–35 days and give birth to litters of 20–40 young. The panda pattern appears after just a few molts, and the young reach sexual maturity after about 4 months. Full size and breeding ability are reached at 6–8 months.
