Porcellio laevis “orange”
The orange Porcellio laevis is identical in care and maintenance to its panda morph—only the rich orange color makes it a colorful highlight. Originally native to Mediterranean greenhouses, it prefers warm, well-ventilated habitats and is very robust.
Climate & Facilities:
Maintain the temperature between 22°C and 27°C and provide a gentle breeze. Use a 5 cm deep layer of loose forest soil, fallen leaves, and white-rotting hardwood. One corner should be kept permanently moist (60%–75% RH), while the rest of the area remains nearly dry.
Feeding & Care:
As an omnivore, P. laevis orange nibbles on dead leaves, rotten wood, and fresh vegetables. Supplement with animal protein (e.g., Gammarus) twice a week, otherwise reproduction will be slower. Cuttlebone bones are essential as a source of calcium—replace them regularly, as they are quickly devoured.
Reproduction & Growth:
Females carry their young for 28–35 days and give birth to litters of 20–40 woodlice. Under ideal conditions, the young reach sexual maturity after about 4 months, and adulthood is reached after 6–8 months. The average lifespan is around 1.5 years, during which high-performing females produce up to 7 litters.
